Me : I went for monthly groceries and my husband with the kid.

Mil : Poor boy, all day taking care of kid must be tired, when you are on shopping.

Let’s try in another way….

Me : My husband went for monthly groceries and I was with the kid.

Mil : Poor boy, what a tired day for him and you are playing with kid.
